AUTRY, GENE (with MICKEY HERSKOWITZ) Back in the Saddle Again Garden City Doubleday 1978 First Edition. Signed presentation copy from film producer Nat Levine, inscribed: ÒTo my friend and pal, With much appreciation for his help. Nat Levine, Jan. 17/89.Ó Mr. Levine is mentioned prominently in the text. Illustrated. Very good copy with a touch of use in a very good lightly used dust jacket with some minor dust soiling, some fading to the spine, and with a few small nicks and tears. The memoirs of Gene Autry, the original ÒSinging CowboyÓ, a concept by which Nat Levine introduced Gene Autry to the screen. Autry's story is a classic rags-to-riches tale, taking him from a hard working life as a railroad worker and guitar player in Oklahoma to one of America's favorite radio, film, and television personalities. Nat Levine (1899 - 1989) produced 105 films between 1921 and 1946, was personal secretary to Marcus Loew, formed Mascot Pictures in 1927, and merged Mascot with Herbert Yates's Republic Pictures in 1935.
