First Edition. Signed by actress, Blanche Yurka, beneath a photograph in the book of a scene from Hamlet in which she and John Barrymore share a dramatic moment. Yurka has written: ÒBlanche and ÔJack' - Blanche Yurka.Ó Near fine copy with a touch of edge wear in a lightly dust soiled dust jacket with some chips and tears, one of which is 2Ó at the top edge of the front panel. Illustrated. Memoirs of the great actor. Blanche Yurka was an opera star prior to becoming an actress on both stage and screen. Her most famous film roles are as the vengeful Madame Defarge in MGM's 1935 version of Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, and as the loving aunt in The Song of Bernadette (1943) with Jennifer Jones.

First Edition. Inscribed and signed by actor John Barrymore to fellow actor Hans Conried presented to him five months before Barrymore's passing: ÒTo Hans Conried - with sincerest good wishes to a fine artist, John Barrymore, 9 iv Ô41.Ó This was John Barrymore's own copy with his large engraved bookplate which is a striking design by Barrymore himself with his initials at the bottom showing the masks of comedy and tragedy, entwined in a thorny tree with flowing banners reading: ÒJohn Barrymore - Ex LibrisÓ beneath which is a pen and an artist's brush. Beneath this is Conried's own bookplate printed in crimson and a caricature vignette of Conried. Hans Conried is best remembered for his leading role in the classic Dr. Seuss fantasy film The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T as well as his portrayal of Uncle Tonoose on The Danny Thomas Show. This book is a 282 page biography of Barrymore, and is very rare inscribed by him since it appeared just shortly before his death. Laid in is a special yellow printed card for the John Barrymore estate auction which ÒEntitles the Bearer to Seat in RESERVED SECTION at Auction of the Precious Possessions of John Barrymore - Deceased - Outstanding Star of Stage and Screen, Monday and Tuesday, August 24 and 25 [1943], 3123 West Eighth Street, Los Angeles - J.J. Sugarman - Randolph Co., Auctioneers.Ó Some interesting notes on Barrymore written by Conried on the rear endpapers, very good in a very good lightly chipped dust jacket.

Bound in decorative paperboards with blue cloth spine and gilt stamping to the cloth at the front board. Very good lightly used copy with some slight wear to the corners and edges. A finely printed collection of poetry by John Myers O'Hara.

Early Edition. This set belonged to the great actor John Barrymore and volume one contains his bookplate. This large engraved bookplate is a striking design drawn by Barrymore, himself, with his initials at the bottom showing the masks of comedy and tragedy, entwined in a thorny tree with flowing banners reading: ÒJohn Barrymore - Ex LibrisÓ beneath which is a pen and an artist's brush. A two volume set; volume one - 405 pages, volume two - 426 pages. A handsome set bound in dark blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and front boards and gilt, white and blue decoration and ÔPeace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Men' gilt stamped to the front boards. Tissue protected frontispieces in both volumes. Very good condition with some minor use and a bit of edge wear. A biography of Henry of Navarre (Henry IV) who, on the death of Henry III in 1589, ruled as the King of France from 1589 to 1610.
