New York Bonhams 2006
First Edition. Paperbound. An illustrated catalogue issued to accompany an auction of over 300 items associated with Truman Capote from the private collection of his long-time friend, Mrs. Joanne Carson (married to Johnny Carson, 1963 - 1972), including books and manuscripts, furniture, decorative arts, jewelry, and fine art. With the prices realized sheets laid in, listing what each item sold for. Fine in printed wrappers. From a quote by Philip Vandervort: ÒTruman and Joanne [Carson] knew all about the ups and downs of everyday living. But if anyone could calm Truman's Ômean reds' it was Joanne. With her, he could be his devilish, wonderful, brilliant self, without ever having to worry about criticism. Unconditional love, that's what it was for both of them. They were always very protective of eachother and very playful. Whatever they were doing, they found the joy and savored it...because they knew it was fleeting.Ó
