CHEVALIER, MAURICE Autograph Postcard Signed from Maurice Chevalier Signed ÒMauriceÓ Marnes la Coquette October 25, 1956 Maurice Chevalier writes in French in blue ink to his friends, Ginette & Paul Emil Seidman on two sides of a large terrific postcard which has a wonderful black & white photograph of Chevalier appearing on stage in a large cowboy hat. The translation reads: ÒMy two loves: I have not given you my news because since we dined with Marlene [Dietrich] two days ago, I have battled a terrible bout of influenza but did not want to admit defeat. Here I am, four weeks of antibiotics later, and I can just see the tail end of the 'flu disappear. I send you my fondest thoughts - see you soon. Maurice.Ó Ginette and Paul Emile Seidman, were a French Jewish couple living in Paris. She was the directrice of the Paris fashion house, Balmain, and as Ginette Spanier was quite a successful author and lecturer on the subject of fashion, both in English and French. Her husband was a doctor. Their Paris home was a place to stay for Maurice Chevalier, Marlene Dietrich, Noel Coward, Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, Danny Kaye, and others. Price:

I have just made the acquaintance of the "Adorable Julia"* Lilli Palmer whose fan I have been since the first time I admired her on the screen. We made a TV (show) in which she interviewed me superbly - in French - which she translated into German sentence by sentence. And now to rest. We talk about you as our loved ones. Yours Maurice.Ó Chevalier is referring to the 1962 film, Adorable Julia [Julia, Du bist zauberhaft] which starred Lilli Palmer and Charles Boyer.
