Signed and inscribed by the author, Howard Dietz, beneath the title on the title page: ÒWords by Howard Dietz.Ó Additionally signed and inscribed on the dedication page, by the dedicate, costume designer and wife of Howard Dietz, Lucinda Ballard. Her inscription reads: ÒLucinda Ballard, pleased at being asked to autograph, 30 Nov. 1974.Ó Lucinda Ballard was well-known in the world of the theatre, and won Tony Awards in 1947 for Best Costumes for "Happy Birthday," "Another Part of the Forest," "Street Scene," "John Loves Mary," and "The Chocolate Soldier" and in 1962 as Best Costume Designer for "The Gay Life." She worked briefly in film, on Portrait of Jennie in 1948 and on A Streetcar Named Desire, for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Costume Design - Black & White. This copy is also signed on the title page by dancer, actress, and painter, Tilly Losch, and by lyricist and screenwriter, Adolph Green. Illustrated. Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. The excellent memoirs of the lyricist of such songs as ÒDancing In the DarkÓ, ÒThat's EntertainmentÓ, ÒAlone TogetherÓ, ÒGive Me Something To Remember You ByÓ, ÒI Guess I'll Have to Change My PlanÓ, ÒBy MyselfÓ, etc. Dietz was head of publicity at MGM studios created the studio's logo, Leo the Lion, and the studio's motto. This autobiography reveals that he knew virtually everyone on Broadway and in Hollywood. Excellent illustrations. Tilly Losch (1907- 1975) was an Austrian dancer, choreographer, actress, and painter. She worked in and on many stage productions, including Noel Coward's musical review in London, The Year of Grace, in New York she danced in The Bandwagon with Fred and Adele Astaire, and acted in the London production of The Miracle. In 1933 she danced in Les Ballets with Kurt Weill, Lotte Lenya, and George Balanchine, under whom she was a premier dancer in the Russian Ballet. Her film work includes Limelight (1936), The Garden of Allah (1936), The Good Earth (1937), and Duel in the Sun (1946). Adolph Green (1914 - 2002) was an American lyricist playwright, and screenwriter who worked with long-time collaborator Betty Comden, on many Hollywood and Broadway musicals, including Good News with June Allyson and Peter Lawford, The Barkleys of Broadway with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, On the Town with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, Singin' in the Rain with Gene Kelly. Comden and Green received two Oscar nominations; for their screenplays for The Band Wagon and It's Always Fair Weather, both of which earned them a Screen Writers Guild Award, as did On the Town. They are also well-remembered for the Mary Martin version of Peter Pan for both Broadway and television, Die Fledermaus for the Metropolitan Opera, and stage musicals for Carol Burnett, Leslie Uggams, and Lauren Bacall, among others. Their many collaborators included Garson Kanin, Cy Coleman, Jule Styne, and Andre Previn.
