Signed and inscribed by the author, Peter Buckley: ÒFor Douglas Fairbanks, hoping you enjoy the pages, Peter Buckley. 30 Oct 78, N.Y.C.Ó Laid in is an autograph note signed by Peter Buckley tucked into a page at a photograph of Ernest Hemingway at a bullfight, taken October 14, 1956. The note reads in full: ÒRupert was sitting next to me when I took this picture of Ernest holding Antonio's [the toreador, Antonia Ordonez] hat. Rupert knew his bullfighting better than Ernest. Peter.Ó Oversize pictorial format. Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with a few tiny tears. A photographic portrait of the writer Ernest Hemingway, most published here for the first time, having been culled from Hemingway's personal collection. The son of silent film's swashbuckling idol 'Douglas Fairbanks', Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909 - 2000) began his acting career at the age of 13 when he was signed by Paramount Pictures. Some of his most memorable films include Little Caesar (1931), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), and Gunga Din (1939).
