Signed presentation copy inscribed by the author - producer - Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Pictures, to his physician, inscribedÓ ÒTo my friend & personal physician Dr. Leland Hawkins. Yours with sincere admiration. Carl Laemmle, 12/10/36.Ó Illustrated. Very good with a 1/4 inch tear to the cloth mid-spine with a touch of rubbing to the spine, but with gilt-stamping still bright on the front board without dust jacket. Laid in is a 3 1/2Ó x 5 1/2Ó black & white photographic portrait autographed signed postcard of Carl Laemmle written to Dr. Hawkins, postmarked 1938 from Zurich, Switzerland (with the stamp neatly removed), with Hawkins' name and address typed, and reads: ÒStill thinking of you. Regards, Carl Laemmle, 8/15/38.Ó The postcard is in near fine condition.

First Edition. With William Saroyan's signature & comment as a part of this signed presentation copy from Carl Laemmle Jr. whose father, Carl Laemmle was the founder of Universal Pictures, which Laemmle Jr. has inscribed: ÒJan. 9, 1951. Dear Mrs. Clemens, I'm sorry that neither my father nor John Drinkwater [the book's author] could autograph this book - you'll have to be satisfied with Saroyan instead. My father would be happy if he knew of you and your family's relationship to Oshkosh - a town he dearly loved, in which he spent so many happy years. All good wishes, Carl Laemmle Jr.Ó Underneath which William Saroyan has signed his name and the word ÒsubstituteÓ. Illustrated. Near fine very lightly used copy without dust jacket. An interesting pairing of signatures well-suited to a book honoring a most interesting man of film.

First Edition. Signed presentation copy from Carl Laemmle, inscribed by the author - film producer: ÒTo N.L. Mannheim. One of my boys Ônuff sed'. Carl Laemmle. 4/21/31.Ó Laid in are several related items: 1) a Typed Letter Signed from John Drinkwater dated May 26, 1931 on printed 8Ó x 5Ó stationery, and reads: ÒMy dear Bryson, I took a party to Le Million [a French comedy film directed by Rene Clair] last night, and we all enjoyed it very thoroughly. I think it is easily in the first rank among film productions, and I don't think I ever laughed more in my life. And now may I beg another couple of tickets for the 8:45 performance on Friday night? Yours, John Drinkwater.Ó Near fine with some slight darkening around the edges and with one minor corner crease and a small tear in the upper left hand corner. 2) a Typed Postcard signed by Carl Laemmle sent from France in 1938, mentioning seeing film director William Wyler. 3) Two Postcards Signed by Richard Laemmle, a family relative, addressed to Mr. Paul Kohner (the Hollywood agent) and his wife. 4) Two printed tickets (approx. 5 1/4Ó x 2 3/4Ó) from a Motion Picture Industry and Civic Testimonial Dinner in Honor of Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Pictures, on April 22, 1936 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, each printed with a charming portrait of Laemmle. Fine. The book is Illustrated. Very good plus to near fine copy with one corner slightly bumped and with some slight edge wear mainly at the top and bottom of the spine which is very slightly darkened in a very good dust jacket with some light fading to the spine and a few small chips. A biography of the founder of Universal Pictures.
