Very good plus bright copy with some very minor splitting to the hinges and a trace of edge wear in a very good dust jacket with a 1 1/2Ó tear to the top edge of the rear panel and some small chips and tears. A true story about a family of elephants written for children by Mrs. Martin Johnson who, with her husband, were among the first to make films of unexplored parts of Africa and the South Pacific.

New York Random House 1942 
First Edition. Quarto, 51 pages. Signed by the author, Osa Johnson. Laid in are 3 black & white signed photographs of Osa Johnson. One shows Osa feeding a tiny baby gibbon with a little baby bottle while it rests in its cradle made from an inverted camp bench and is inscribed: ÒTo Jimmy, Best wishes, Osa Johnson.Ó It measures 9Ó x 7Ó and on the verso is affixed information about the photo, indicating it was taken on 7/6/36 and is from a visit she and her husband, Martin Johnson, made to Borneo. Another image (8Ó x 10Ó) is of Osa and Martin wearing old-fashioned leather flight helmets with raised goggles, both smiling, and is signed and inscribed: ÒBest African wishes, Osa Johnson.Ó The third photo (8Ó x 10Ó) is signed ÒOsa JohnsonÓ and shows Osa sitting at a table looking enthusiastic and lovely, taken while on a promotional tour for her documentary adventure film ÔJungles Calling.' Illustrated with black & white and color drawings by Arthur August Jansson. A very good plus bright copy with minor rubbing to the corners and the barest hint of dust soiling to the cloth at the spine without dust jacket. A sweet children's story book telling the tale of a young gorilla named Snowball, one of Osa Johnson's most lovable and mischievous jungle pets. Osa and her husband Martin Johnson were among the first to make films of unexplored parts of Africa and the South Pacific.
