The Master Set of long galley proofs printed on one side only with corrections in ink and signature of the editor. With the Corrected Proof Copy signed by the editor and dated by him ÔMarch 18, 1982.' Included is a First Edition of one of 150 numbered copies in printed wrappers, this being Copy No. 2. These two stories were published in Macdonald's and Millar's high school newspaper in Ontario, The Grumbler, in 1931. Macdonald's story, ÒThe South Sea Soup CompanyÓ is a Sherlock Holmes parody. Millar's story is titled ÒImpromptu.Ó All items are in fine condition.

First Edition. Signed presentation copy inscribed by the author Margaret Millar to her sister, Dorothy (nicknamed ÔDoagie'). Inscribed: ÒFor Doagie with love, Margaret Millar, Santa Barbara, March / 47.Ó Very good bright copy with some minor edge wear and a thin line of fading to the cloth at the top edge of the spine in a very god slightly used dust jacket with some small chips and tears. Margaret Millar (1915 - 1994) was the wife of fellow detective fiction writer Kenneth Millar / Ross Macdonald. In 1956 she won the Edgar Allan Poe Award, Best Novel for ÔBeast in View' and in 1983 she was awarded the Grand Master Award by the Mystery Writers of America in recognition of her lifetime achievements. H.R.F. Keating included Millar's ÔBeast In View' in his collection ÔCrime & Mystery. The 100 Best Books,' with the following critical praise: "Margaret Millar is surely one of late twentieth-century crime fiction's best writers, in the sense that the actual writing in her books, the prose, is of superb quality. On almost every page of this one there is some description, whether of a physical thing or a mental state, that sends a sharp ray of extra meaning into the reader's mind." She is also the author of such noted works as ÔThe Devil Loves Me,' ÔFire Will Freeze,' ÔThe Invisible Worm,' ÔHow Like an Angel,' ÔDo Evil in Return,' etc.
