3 BARTHELMESS, RICHARD Typed Letter Signed, 1 Page
New York March 7, 1963
Signed by the author, “Richard Bathelmess”. Actor Richard Barthelmess was best known for his work in silent films and early talkies such as Tol'able David, D.W. Griffith's Way Down East, and Broken Blossoms, as well as The Patent Leather Kid, Noose, The Dawn Patrol, etc. “Dear Mr. Kearns: ...I am glad that you found ‘Tol'able David' to your liking. It was my favorite. Due largely to the fact that I promoted the whole film, from a meeting with Joseph Hergesheimer, after which I formed a producing company (as a very young man), put the script together, and had the happy result of having the whole voted the best picture of that year--1921!...Sincerely Richard Barthelmess”. Evidence of the letter having been removed from an album with a piece of paper taped over, some show through, very good.
