There is some kind of fascination, as well there might be, because they were both enigmas. I knew them well - I made two pictures with Monroe ['Some Like it Hot' and ‘The Seven Year Itch'] and I wrote and lived on the fourth floor of Paramount for a long time with Chandler - and they were indeed enigmas.” Wilder directed the great film ‘Double Indemnity' based on Chandler's novel, starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G. Robinson. Illustrated. Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with some minor fading to the spine. A Collection of essays related to the life and work of the great mystery and detective author Raymond Chandler by Jacques Barzun, Russell Davies, Clive James, Frank Norman, Natasha Spender, Julian Symons, etc. Billy Wilder's legendary status in Hollywood as a director, screenwriter, and producer includes such classic films as Ninotchka, Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Stalag 17, Some Like it Hot, The Seven Year Itch, The Apartment, and The Fortune Cookie.
