First Edition. Fine copy in a lightly used price-clipped dust jacket with some small chips and tears. The basis of the classic film noir ‘Pitfall,' directed by Andre De Toth, starring Dick Powell, Lizabeth Scott, Jane Wyatt, and Raymond Burr. Jay Dratler was a prolific writer, as novelist, screenwriter, and for television. Some of his more notable work includes the screenplays for ‘Laura,' ‘That Wonderful Urge,' ‘Call Northside 777,' ‘The Dark Corner,' and for the popular television shows ‘Perry Mason,' ‘Naked City,' ‘Burke's Law,' and ‘The Addams Family.'

The story of Eric Stanton (Andrews) who, while down on his luck, falls for a waitress named Stella (Darnell), but marries a wealthy woman named June Mills (Faye), in hopes that his riches will attract the woman he truly loves. Murder and mystery thicken the plot. Scarce.
