10 BERMAN, SUSAN & ROBERT DURST Driver, Give a Soldier a Lift
New York Putnam 1976
First Edition, First Printing. Signed and inscribed by the author Susan Berman, the murdered writer, who was close friends with Robert Durst who is being tried for her murder. The book is inscribed: “Dear Ellen - I'm sure you'll recognize some of these events! Love, Susan.” Small square of faint stain from a removed price-sticker in the upper right hand corner of the front endpaper, else near fine in a very good dust jacket with a few minor tears. and a finger nail sized chip to the bottom right hand corner of the rear panel. Berman's first book, a funny wild novel of a young Jewish American woman traveling around Israel based on Berman's time living there. Susan Berman's relationship with Robert Durst and her homicide just before Christmas in 2000 was profiled in depth in the acclaimed 2015 HBO documentary series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, directed by Andrew Jarecki. In a 2005 deposition Durst reported that Ms. Berman had contacted him about how the Los Angeles Police Department wanted to talk with her about the unresolved October 2000 disappearance of Durst's first wife Kathleen McCormack, about which Durst was extensively questioned at the time, but was not formally charged with a crime. As events unfolded, in March 14, 2015 Robert Durst was arrested by FBI agents in New Orleans for Susan Berman's murder. Ironically, the HBO documentary, for which Durst voluntarily granted lengthy interviews, contributed key new evidence to Berman's homicide investigation which eventually lead to the filing of murder charges against him. All in all, a complex and enigmatic story.
