1 TULLY, ANDREW The FBI's Most Famous Cases. With an Introduction and Comments by J. Edgar Hoover, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation
New York Morrow 1965
First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, J. Edgar Hoover, inscribed in the year of publication: “To John Gottlieb. Best Wishes, J. Edgar Hoover, Xmas ‘65.” Laid in is a one-page Typed Letter Signed, dated March 1, 1961, to General John O. Gottlieb, on J. Edgar Hoover's personal FBI stationary signed “Edgar” in blue ink. The text of the letter is both cordial and authoritative in tone, initially referencing an invitation extended by Gottlieb to Hoover and Hoover's long time companion, Clyde Tolson, to visit him the next time they were on the west coast. In the next paragraph, Hoover responds to Gottlieb's inquiry into rumors of Hoover's possible retirement: “With regard to your comments on the prediction of my retirement as Director of the FBI, I thought you might like to know there is not a scintilla of truth to this story, and that I have no intention whatsoever of retiring.” The book is a look into some of the more sensational FBI cases and criminals of the 20th Century including John Dillinger, Ethel & Julius Rosenberg, and Machine Gun Kelly. Illustrated. Very good in a dust jacket missing two pieces (1” and 2”) on the spine and some small chips and tears.
