London Cassell 1883
First Edition. Original publisher's blue gilt-stamped cloth, hinges slightly starting, some cocking, some rubbing, some slight fraying at top and bottom of spine, overall very good. With the following points: "Dead Man's Chest" is uncapitalized on pages 2 and 7; with "rain" for "vain" in the last line of page 40; the letter "a" is not present in 6th line of page 63; the "8" is present in the pagination on page 83; the number "7" is lacking completely from the pagination number on page 127 (it is likely that the copies with the 7 lacking completely precede those copies with the handstamped 7); the period is lacking following "opportunity" in the 20th line of page 178; with "worse" for "worst" in the 3rd line of page 197. the 8 pages of advertisements are the October ads "dated 5R-1083". The book was published on November 14, 1883 and October ads, were likely used in the earliest binding. There are copies with July ads, which may have been used when the October ads were used up, and there are copies with December advertisements. The book was issued in six different cloth colors, for which there is no established (or even supposed) priority. The most famous pirate novel of all-time and one of the great landmarks of adventure fiction. Enclosed in a custom clamshell box.
