CARROLL, LEWIS Alice's Adventures In Wonderland
London Macmillan 1891
Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to one of his young friends, “Edith E. Lucy from the Author, Nov. 6, 1893.” This edition, the eighth (84th thousand), contains an entirely reset “Mouse Tale” (page 37) and a new version of the illustration on page 91, which shows Alice as “faceless”. Edith Lucy was one of Dodgson's logic students in high school. The relationship with Edith continued until Dodgson's death. She helped him in making advertisements regarding spoiled copies of Looking-Glass, an edition he largely gave away, and also assisted him in preparing presentation copies of Sylvie and Bruno Concluded for shipment. Original cloth, slightly frayed, front hinge weak, overall, very good or a little better in a custom cloth clamshell box.
