4 MURPHY, GERALD (STEWART, RICK) An American Painter In Paris – Gerald Murphy - By Rick Stewart
Dallas Dallas Museum of Art 1986
First Edition. Paperbound. As new fresh unread copy. Landmark exhibition of all Murphy's extant paintings done during the expatriate period. Gerald and Sara Murphy were friends to the expatriate colony and knew virtually everyone. Gerald's paintings were praised by both Picasso and Leger. Fitzgerald used the Murphy's as part of the basis for Tender is the Night and Hemingway wrote of Gerald's personal loss in Islands in the Stream. The paintings are beautifully printed in color with an excellent text which is fully expatriate oriented. Important work.
