1 SHAW, SAM & NORMAN ROSTEN Marilyn Among Friends (ISBN 0747500126 / 0-7475-0012-6)
London Bloomsbury 1987
First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, Sam Shaw: “To Beautiful Perdita, more than friend. Love, Sam Dec. 87, Happy Birthday.” An oversize art book illustrated with 200 of Sam Shaw's photographs of Marilyn Monroe, most of them previously unpublished. Very good copy with two tiny dents to the front board and a 1/2” of slight discoloration and rubbing to the cloth at the bottom edge of the front board and spine in a very good dust jacket with a faint dampstain to the top edge and with a couple of tiny tears. From the jacket flap: “The photographer Sam Shaw introduced Norman Rosten to Marilyn Monroe in 1955. Their relationship grew: Marilyn's analyst, Dr. Ralph Greenson, described Rosten as one of her ‘closest friends.'” Film producer and photojournalist Sam Shaw met Miss Monroe on the set of the Marlon Brando film ‘Viva Zapata' and is perhaps most famous for his iconic photo of Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate with her skirt billowing, from director Billy Wilder's classic film The Seven Year Itch with Tom Ewell.
