1 ROBERTS, HOWARD The Big Nine. The Story of Football in the Western Conference
New York Putnam 1948
First Edition. Signed and inscribed by long-time Chicago Bears running back, Harold ‘Red' Grange, who is featured in the text accompanied by a full-page black & white photographic portrait. Inscribed on the half-title: “Best wishes to George Banister from “Red” Grange.” Laid in is an obituary clipping for Grange from the January 28, 1991 edition of the New York Times. Illustrated. Near fine bright copy with a trace of use in a very good lightly used dust jacket with some small chips and tears and minor dust soiling. From the front jacket flap: “This is the thrill-packed saga of over fifty years of grinding gridiron conflict in the country's toughest collegiate league, the Western Conference. This book traces the origin of the Conference - known through its first four decades as the Big Ten until chicago's withdrawal in 1939 - and portrays its eventful history in terms of its leaders, its players, and its coaches.”
