The film was directed by Michel Hazanavicius, starring Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo, John Goodman, and Penelope Ann Miller. The film tells the story of early Hollywood, set in 1927, where silent movie star George Valentin (Dujardin) faces the possibility of the loss of his career with the advent of talking films, and whose life is changed by meeting Peppy Miller (Bejo), a young dancer looking for a break. The Artist won five Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor (Jean Dujardin), Best Director, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score (Ludovic Bource), and Best Achievement in Costume Design (Mark Bridges). It was also nominated for another five Oscars: Best Writing, Original Screenplay (Michel Hazanavicius), Best Supporting Actress (Berenice Bejo), Best Art Direction, Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Film Editing.
