Oversize format, illustrated throughout with photographs of the many productions of the musical Show Boat, adapted from the best-selling novel by Edna Ferber, by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II. Near fine bright copy with a trace of edge wear in a near fine dust jacket with a couple of very tiny tears and one 1” tear to the top edge at the front spine fold. Some of the songs in the production are, Ol' Man River, Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man, Make Believe, and Bill. Show Boat has been performed by the top of the musical theater world, including Irene Dunne, Shirley Jones, Joe E. Brown, Brock Peters, Andy Devine, Arthur Godfrey, Helen Noyes, Ruta Lee, etc. It has subsequently has been adapted into three film versions. Alan Young worked with the most famous talking horse, Mister Ed, one of the most beloved television shows of all time. He is also known for his role of Filby, opposite Rod Taylor in the classic film version of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine (1960) directed by George Pal, and has appeared in such motion pictures as Mr. Belvedere Goes to College, Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick, Androcles and the Lion, and has provided the voice for Scrooge McDuck for Walt Disney cartoon films. In 1952 Alan Young received two Emmy's for ‘The Alan Young Show.'
