1 SHAFFER, ELLEN The Nuremberg Chronicle - A Pictorial World History from the Creation to 1493 - A Monograph - With a Leaf from the Pirated Augsburg Lain Edition of 1497
Los Angeles Dawson's Book Shop 1950
First Edition. Copy number 85 of 300 numbered copies containing an original printed leaf from the 1497 pirated latin edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle. The copy has one of the choicer specimens, very striking looking, with a remarkable15 small woodcut portraits, as a number of leaves in the edition had none and were strictly typographical. The copy is inscribed by Shaffer to Lucille Miller, “with whom it has been a pleasure to discuss so many fine books.” Miller was librarian to the famous book collector Estelle Doheny, of whose collection Shaffer later wrote an account in The Book Collector - Spring 1965. Shaffer was a longtime bibliographic scholar and employee of Dawson's Book Shop, she later became the Director of the Silverado Museum dedicated to the life and works of Robert Louis Stevenson.
