First Edition. Signed by the author, John Paddy Carstairs and inscribed: “David, Some light nonsense for your flight! Grateful thanks! Paddy. Ardmore ‘61.” Slight touch of use, else a fine copy in a lightly used price-clipped dust jacket with some rubbing and a few tiny nicks. A mystery novel. John Paddy Carstairs was a British film and television director, comic novelist, and painter. He directed 37 films in total, including Spare a Copper, Dancing with Crime, Up to His Neck, Up in the World, Tommy the Toreador, Sands of the Desert, and Weekend with Lulu. He had a long association with the character of Simon Templar (the character's creator, novelist Leslie Charteris, dedicated his 1963 book, The Saint in the Sun to Carstairs). He also directing the 1939 Saint film, The Saint in London, as well as two episodes of The Saint television series in the 1960s, making him the only individual (other than Charteris himself) to be connected to both the Hollywood film and British series of The Saint. Carstairs is the author of But Wishes Aren't Horses, Movie Merry-Go-Round, No Thanks for the Shroud, Nicer to Stay in Bed,Vinegar and Brown Paper, A Novel of Pre-War London, Kimmie, Gardenias Bruise Easily, and three autobiographical works - Honest Injun, Hadn't We the Gaiety, and Kaleidoscope and a Jaundiced Eye.

First Edition - American. Signed by the author, preeminent wine writer and historian, Hugh Johnson, on the title page. Substantial, oversize volume, 383 pages. Illustrated. Faint dampstains to bottom and top edges of the cloth not affecting the interior in a very good dust jacket with matching faint dampstains and a few small tears and minor edge wear. From the jacket flap: “A Life Uncorked weaves Johnson's wide-ranging ruminations, memories, and observations on his remarkable life together with information on every aspect of wine - from its technical production to its cultural significance.”
