1 BRADBURY, RAY, WILLIAM F. NOLAN, ROBERT BLOCH, ELVIRA & ROWENA The Book Sail - 16th Anniversary Catalogue. The Undead
Orange, CA McLaughlin Press 1984
First Edition. One of 100 Deluxe Copies Reserved for Presentation by the Publisher, Numbered in Martian Numerals, as stated on the colophon. Opposite the colophon page is a terrific illustration of a woman's hand with long red fingernails and a fancy ring at the upper right side of the page extended toward the center of the page, dripping bright red blood down to the bottom of the page where a three-line pyramidal shape serving as the “Martian Numeral” has been written in a pool of blood, which as the colophon states is “an ink compound containing human blood.” Bound in full decorated cloth with a 3-D insert on the front cover showing horror film hostess Elvira - Mistress of the Dark, holding a crystal ball and showing lots of cleavage, with the original silver foil wraparound band laid in. Signed by the authors Ray Bradbury (at his foreword), Robert Bloch (printing a specially commissioned horror short story “The Undead” about the original manuscript of ‘Dracula'), William F. Nolan (in a separate first printing of his work ‘The Dandelion Chronicles' tucked into a special pocket at the rear pastedown which also bears the same “Martian Numeral” symbol as the book), and fantasy artist Rowena. Extensively illustrated rare book dealer's catalogue including an amazing collection of items of science fiction, fantasy, horror, cinema, art, and popular culture material. Also a special highlight offering the original manuscript of Bram Stoker's ‘Dracula' entitled ‘The Undead' and printing a previously unpublished sequence about the destruction of Castle Dracula. Perhaps the most unusual rare book catalogue ever presented, pulling out all the stops for maximum creepiness. About fine bright copy with the barest suggestion of use.
