2 MATHISON, MELISSA & STEVEN SPIELBERG Original Shooting Script for the Steven Spielberg Film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. With the ‘Fake' Title for the Project ‘A Boy's Life' Printed on the Front Cover
Culver City, CA Universal Pictures, Amblin Entertainment 1981
Original 113 page shooting script for the Steven Spielberg film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. With the ‘fake' title for the project ‘A Boy's Life' printed on the front cover. The film began shooting in September 1981, filming under the cover name ‘A Boy's Life', as Spielberg did not want anyone to discover and plagiarize the plot. The actors had to agree to read the script behind closed doors, and everyone on set had to wear an ID card. With “Shooting Script, August 21, 1981” and “Produced by: STEVEN SPIELBERG & KATHLEEN KENNEDY / Directed by: STEVEN SPIELBERG” printed along the bottom edge. The title page reads, “A BOY'S LIFE by MELISSA MATHISON” with the same date as the cover. Bradbound. Touch of handling and faded areas to the covers, with the interior clean and complete. The back story on the film's creative beginnings are that, after Spielberg's parents' divorce in 1960, he compensated the loss by with an imaginary alien companion. In 1978, he announced he would shoot a film entitled ‘Growing Up' which was subsequently revised to the working title ‘A Boy's Life'. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Melissa Mathison, and stars Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, and Robert McNaughton. The film won four Oscars: Best Sound, Best Effects - Visual Effects (including Carlo Rambaldi), Best Effects - Sound Effects Editing, and Best Music - Original Score. It was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing - Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing.
