First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, Emmet Lavery, to Hollywood agent, H.N. Swanson: “For Swanie, the original Hollywood Yankee. Ever gratefully, Emmett. Hollywood, Christmas, 1946.” Illustrated with black & white photos of the original Broadway production of the play, The Magnificent Yankee, starring Louis Calhern and Dorothy Gish, portraying the celebrated American jurist, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, and his wife, Fanny Dixwell Holmes. With a foreword by Arthur Hopkins. Near fine bright copy with a faint circular cup mark to the rear board in a very good plus faintly dust soiled dust jacket with a trace of a cup mark to the rear panel and a few tiny nicks. The basis of the 1950 film directed by John Sturges, starring Louis Calhern and Ann Harding as Mr. & Mrs. Holmes.
