1 WEAVER, JOHN D El Pueblo Grande. Los Angles from the Brush Huts of Yangna to the Skyscrapers of the Modern Megalopolis
Los Angeles Privately printed 1973
First Edition. Paperbound. Signed and inscribed by the author, John D. Weaver, to film director, Delbert Mann and his wife: “For Del and Ann, who view the pueblo with semi-detached amusement and sigh for London - and so do I, and so do I. Best wishes, John D. Weaver.” Illustrated. Very good copy with a touch of fading to the outer edges of the covers and with a small tear to the bottom edge of the front cover in printed wrappers. A history of Los Angeles, from its early days as a Spanish colony and Mexican capital to its more modern configurations illustrated with some terrific black & white photos. Delbert Mann (1920 - 2007) was an accomplished director who came from the Golden Age of Television ("Philco Playhouse," "Goodyear Television Playhouse," and "Producers' Showcase") and went on to great success in film, and is perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning direction of the classic film Marty.
