Madison University of Wisconsin Press 1983
First Edition. Faulkner wrote two uncredited scenes for this screenplay which are published in this book as fully documented in Blotner's biography and Bruce Kawin's Faulkner and Film. Issued largely as a trade paperback, this is one of the small number of copies issued hardbound. The shooting script for the Howard Hawks directed film, produced during the first year of WWII and after the attack at Pearl Harbor. Jack Warner specifically wanted a film to bolster America's spirits, and this film has been hailed as the definitive Òpatriotic heart-throb in celluloidÓ. Illustrated. Fine in dust jacket. Scarce.

First Edition, Second state. This copy belonged to Elizabeth Prall Anderson, the first wife of novelist Sherwood Anderson, and is signed by her twice. First, the book is signed in blue ink on the printed half-title, ÒElizabeth P. Anderson 1930Ó and then signed by her in pencil on the front free endpaper: ÒE.P. Anderson, Kingscote Gardens, Stanford University.Ó Elizabeth Prall, before she married Sherwood Anderson, had hired Faulkner to work in a bookstore she had managed in New York. After her marriage, Faulkner became very involved with the Andersons as Sherwood became an early mentor figure to the developing Faulkner. Fine in a bright very slightly used dust jacket with a few minute nicks and a 3/4 inch tear at the bottom of the rear panel.
