Original typed letter signed by the author, writer, Faith Baldwin, in reply to a request for information about her writing career from a fan named Betty Hogan who sent out questionnaires to writers. Miss Baldwin replies briefly in pencil to the questions, and then types a lengthy reply on the verso, with a few pencil corrections, and signs in pencil: ÒDear Miss Hogan, little of this is applicable to what you want; I sold verse to the pulps published by Munsey when I was 18 [Cavalier Magazine] and I am now 53. I wrote them 2 shorts the plots given me by Bob Davis, and I got 15 dollars each for them - after that rejections; however - did write and have accepted a great deal of verse. I wrote my first novel for fun during the first world war and also wrote at an agents insistence for the pulps, for newspapers (not as a reporter) and later did everything from beauty and love lorn columns to greeting cards and lots of ghost writing....Then I went on with shorts for Cosmo, serials for Goodhouse and finally serials for Cosmo, etc...I did not however try very seriously to do much other than little novels (unserialized) and verse up to about 1923. Good luck, Faith Baldwin.Ó One crease from folding and one 1 1/2Ó edge tear, else fine without envelope. American author, Faith Baldwin Cutherall (1893-1978), wrote romance novels as well as two books under the pen name Amber Lee. Her works include, ÒApartment for Peggy" (1948) and "The Office Wife" (1930).
