First Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, Andrew Geer, to film director Allan Dwan: “For Allan - the ‘General' - with every good wish that the trail doesn't end with the Sands of Iwo Jima. Andy Geer.” Allan Dwan directed the 1949 World War II film The Sands of Iwo Jima, starring John Wayne (his first Oscar nominated performance), for which Lt. Col. Andrew Geer was a consultant. Near fine copy with a faint trace of edge wear to the cloth in a very good lightly used dust jacket with some small chips and tears and a hint of dust soiling. Allan Dwan (1885 - 1981) was one of the earliest Hollywood silent film directors and his impressive career in film spanned over 50 years with more than 400 films (in both silent film and talkies) to his credit, including While Paris Sleeps, Heidi, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Suez, and Frontier Marshall. John Wayne also starred in the 1955 film, The Sea Chase, which was written by James Warner Bellah, directed by John Farrow, and co-starred Lana Turner, David Farrar, Lyle Bettger, Tab Hunter, and James Arness.
