A wonderful photograph of the lovely silent film star Blanche Sweet signed by her: “Sincerely, Blanche Sweet.” The portrait was taken by the Hoover Art Co. as noted on the photo. Fine. In the photo Miss Sweet is sitting on a carpeted floor, wearing a pretty dress with long sheer sleeves, her hair in a waved bob, and a vase with flowers at her side. Blanche Sweet (1896 - 1986) was a protege of the great silent film director, D.W. Griffith, who cast her in the roles of strong, confident women, thus distinguishing her from most of her peers. Some of her more memorable films include The first Anna Christie in 1923, A Corner in Wheat with Mack Sennett, A Romance of the Western Hills with Mary Pickford, and Home, Sweet Home with Dorothy Gish.
