1 [FERRETTI, DANTE] LUCCI, GABRIELE & DANTE FERRETTI Ferretti: L'arte della Scenografia. Testi e Bozzetti di Dante Ferretti. A Cura di Gabriele Lucci. Ferretti: The Art of Production Design. Texts and Sketches by Dante Ferretti. Curated by Gabriele Lucci
Milan, Italy Electa & Accademia dell'Immagine 2004
First Edition. Signed by the author, film production designer, and artist, Dante Ferretti, on the half-title. Text in Italian and English. Large square quarto format, 12” x 12”. Illustrated throughout in color and black & white. Fine without dust jacket as issued. Ferretti has received seven Academy Award nominations and most recently winning the Oscar for his work with Francesca Lo Schiavo as art director for Martin Scorsese's The Aviator), six BAFTA Award nominations (winning twice for production design on Interview with the Vampire and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen), ten Silver Ribbons from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists, and more. He has worked with director Martin Scorsese (who contributed the preface) on The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Bringing Out the Dead, Kundun, Casino, and The Age of Innocence, with Anthony Minghella on Cold Mountain, Neil Jordan on The Interview with the Vampire, Terry Gilliam on The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Jean-Jacques Annaud on The Name of the Rose, Pier Paolo Pasolini on Medea and 120 Days of Sodom, Federico Fellini on Satyricon, etc. This book affords an incredibly detailed overview of Ferretti's work and creative process. While the quote attributed to the great German architect and designer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe: “God is in the details.” is often undeservedly granted, here it is perfectly appropriate, as Dante Ferretti is truly a divinely inspired artist whose contribution to the art of film is of the highest order.
