First Edition. One of an edition limited to 200 finely printed, handbound copies. Signed presentation copy from Fay Ellen Powell to writer Paul Horgan, whose cat, Colette, inspired this work. Inscribed by the author: For Paul Horgan and his beautiful residents, - cats of course. All in memory of Colette, genius. Fay Ellen Powell. Oct. 3rd, 1990. Illustrated by Mark Sanders. Small format, 5 1/4 x 4 1/2. Very fine without dust jacket as issued. The charming story of a semester in 1968 spent at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, by Fay and Lawrence Clark Powell, who had just been awarded a Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Studies by their friend and colleague, Paul Horgan, who loaned them his young cat, Colette - to their mutual delight. Paul Horgan was best known for his writings set in the American Southwest. He was awarded the Harper Prize in 1933 for The Fault of Angels, and twice won the Pulitzer Prize for History, first in 1955 with Great River: The Rio Grande in North American History and then again in 1976 with Lamy of Santa Fe.
