New York Random House 1954 
Book Club Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author, Joseph Hayes, to his Hollywood agent, Tom Shanks. Inscribed: “To Tom Shanks, in friendship and with the hope that our relationship will continue long and jolly and profitable for both of us. Joe Hayes.” Additionally signed and dated by the author: “Joseph Hayes, May 1993.” Very good plus copy with some minor darkening to the endpapers and a touch of edge wear in a very good dust jacket with some minor darkening to the spine, a bit of edge wear, and a few small chips and tears. The story of a group of three escaped convicts who terrorize a quiet suburban family. The Desperate Hours was the basis of two different film versions: the first directed by William Wyler in 1955, starring Humphrey Bogart, Frederic March, Arthur Kennedy, and Martha Scott. The second was released in 1990 and was directed by Michael Cimino, and starred Mickey Rourke, Anthony Hopkins, Mimi Rogers, and Lindsay Crouse.
