Limited Edition. Presentation Copy, so stated on the colophon, one of 500 deluxe numbered copies signed by Kirk Douglas, who has written an introductory essay. Also with a signed inscription by Kirk Douglas to Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer on the front free endpaper: “For Brian Grazer, When I was a young producer like you, I bought the rights to this novel to make Lonely Are the Brave, my favorite film. Read it, you'll like it. With thanks for Greedy. Kirk Douglas, 1994. P.S. I don't send you the books I write, I expect you to buy them.” Mr. Douglas's inscription refers to the film Greedy which was produced by Grazer and starred Douglas and Michael J. Fox. Kirk Douglas produced and starred in the 1962 motion picture adaptation of the novel released as Lonely Are the Brave, and the book is illustrated with photographs from the film. As new in dust jacket. The book is printed on acid-free paper and bound in full linen. This is the definitive edition of The Brave Cowboy containing all of Abbey's final corrections and additions.

First Edition. Signed by actor Kirk Douglas at the half-title beneath his printed name. Oversize format, 8 3/4” x 11 1/4”, 255 pages, illustrated throughout. Near fine bright copy with just a hint of handling in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket with some very minor edge wear. The last of Douglas's films profiled in this book is Catch Me a Spy (1971) in which he co-starred with Marlene Jobert and Trevor Howard. Some of Douglas's other memorable films include Champion (1949) - nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) - nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, Lust for Life (1956) - nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), The Vikings (1958), and Spartacus (1960) directed by Stanley Kubrick co-starring Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, and Tony Curtis. In 1996 he was awarded an Honorary Oscar for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.
